Perfectly positioned on Leisure Isle’s idyllic Bollard Bay Beach, it is easy to explore the many attractions offered by Knysna and the rest of the Garden Route from Leisure Isle Lodge. Or simply put your feet up and enjoy a champagne sunset from our deck overlooking the lagoon and famous Knysna Heads.

The Surrounds

A charming retreat in the middle of the world renowned Knysna lagoon, Leisure Isle brings postcard images of idyllic beach breakaways to life.

Beautiful Bollard Bay Beach, directly opposite Leisure Isle Lodge, is but one of the spotless beaches offering safe swimming in the sparkling Knysna lagoon. Supplement your tan under one of our umbrellas on the beach, explore the lagoon in one of our kayaks or spoil yourself with a luxury champagne sundowner cruise.

Should you wish to be a bit more active, then order your gourmet picnic during breakfast and discover the island on one of our bicycles. Leisure Isle boasts a small boat harbour, tennis and bowls clubs, an art gallery and antique store, rolling parklands and its own nature reserve – ideal for that romantic or family picnic. The island is also a natural paradise for a host of small wildlife and birds.

Barely 10 minutes’ drive from the Knysna CBD, Leisure Isle is the perfect spot from where to explore the treasure trove of experiences on offer in Knysna and the surrounding Garden Route towns.

The indigenous forest and surrounding fynbos offer adrenalin junkies challenging trail running and single track mountain biking routes, or enjoy a leisurely stroll and marvel at the giant trees and lush undergrowth. Keep your eye out for the elusive Knysna Loerie and, of course, the mystical forest elephant. Or simply visit the elephants and other animals at one of the many animal sanctuaries in the vicinity.

The lagoon and Indian Ocean beyond offers all water sports imaginable – from strolling along miles of unspoilt beaches and days of fun in the sun with family, to angling, deep sea fishing, cruises, whale watching, deep sea diving, snorkelling, surfing, water skiing, kite surfing – the list is truly endless…

Knysna is a golfer’s paradise and our guests are offered preferential rates to play at Simola Golf and Country Estate.

Enjoy a brilliant al fresco breakfast at one of six outdoor markets between nearby Plettenberg Bay and Sedgefield, as well as art and craft and organic produce shopping. In fact, the Knysna area is well known for the variety of organic home produce available to discerning shoppers – from award winning honey in Rheenendal to an amber nectar of a different sort at Knysna’s own Mitchell’s Brewery. And speaking of nectar, a number of wine estates are within easy driving distance for tastings and lunches.

In short, Knysna and the surrounding Garden Route offers more than you could wish to experience during your stay. And Leisure Isle Lodge is the ideal base from which to explore these adventures. We are happy to suggest activities and outings, and will gladly make the necessary arrangements on your behalf.
